3-Bay Oak-Framed Garage, Wiltshire
We recently completed a bespoke three-bay oak-framed garage in Bishopstone, just outside Salisbury. The building features an upper floor accessed via an external staircase, providing valuable additional space above the enclosed workshop bays.
As the structure exceeded 1.8 metres in height, we managed the full planning permission process on behalf of the client, ensuring everything progressed smoothly from design through to approval.
Because the garage sits close to the boundary, the rear and right-hand side walls were constructed with cement board behind the timber cladding to meet fire safety requirements. The cladding itself was spray-treated to provide 30 minutes of fire protection, adding an extra level of reassurance.
The building is finished with high-quality Spanish slate roofing, complementing the traditional oak frame and giving the project a refined, durable appearance.

As part of the planning process, one condition required a 1.8m balustrade at the top of the external staircase to protect neighbouring privacy. Our clients chose an oak hit-and-miss style panel design, which not only met the planning requirement but also enhanced the building’s appearance.
The upper-floor loft room will be used as a hobby and sewing room, freeing up space within the main house. Flooded with light and offering generous space, it provides a bright, comfortable environment for creative work.
